Rugby Smart CCTV was formed in 2018 when I wanted to install cameras in my own house to provide a bit of security - to check on my car, and to keep an eye on the dog when we've had to pop out.

 

I soon realised that there are lots of CCTV camera manufacturers out there (literally hundreds of them) some geared towards high end commercial buildings, and some toward home owners and residential customers.

 

The first issue I found was that many camera manufacturers and CCTV installers usually require you to have a separate (and expensive) recording unit in order to store all of the camera recordings. To view the recordings requires you to access that storage unit directly with a wired connection to a TV or a separate, dedicated, monitor. When you can easily stream Netflix and YouTube to your smart phone, it seemed bonkers to me that you couldn't view your cameras on a phone too.

Well, you can stream recordings to your phone, and with a little network know how its not too difficult to configure. When I tell my customers this you can see that they are relieved that they don't have to have yet another black box sat under the TV!

The next issue I found was each camera manufacturer had their own way of accessing their cameras. This was sometimes a clunky website, or a poorly written app with weird and/or non standard ways of doing things and accessing the cameras various features. But, once I'd done plenty of research, and tried a number of different ones, I finally settled on the manufacturer that I use to this day.

Coming from a computer and networking background I decided to put my skills into action and start supplying the system I eventually installed myself.
