CAMERA SUPPLY INSTALLATION

Whether you want to keep an eye on your car, your pet, your granny, or your kids, I can provide a bespoke system customised to your needs.

Normally cameras are installed so work direct to your smart phone, tablet, or laptop, but a dedicated hard drive is also available for those that prefer it.

In the vast majority of cases the cameras I supply will be wired (as opposed to wireless, or Wi-Fi), as these provide a more reliable connection, although indoor Wi-Fi cameras are available for easy installation and the ability to move around if required. Outdoor Wi-Fi cameras are also available for specific cases like sheds and outhouses where running a cable is not possible.

CAMERA SUPPLY ONLY

For those who just want the camera itself without the need for installation, I can provide ready to go units, complete with power supply, and any networking components that you may need.

On occasion I can offer slightly used or new-old stock cameras for those on a budget.

VIDEO DOORBELL SUPPLY INSTALLATION

Everyone seems to have a video doorbell these days. You hear that 'Ring' chime wherever you go, and who can blame them - being able to see who's at the door even when you're not home, is a really useful feature.

Even if you are home, if you're old or infirm, or it simply takes you a little while to get to the door, these are a massive boon, and ensures you won't ever miss a delivery again.

I supply the industry standard 'Ring' video door bell, and also the new Reolink video door bell.

The Ring door bell is available as a battery version or a wired version. I recommend the wired version as the battery version can take a while to 'wake up' - connect to the Wi-Fi and then alert you, once someone presses the doorbell button.

The Reolink door bell is wired only.

All types can connect to an existing chime and effectively become a direct replacement for a regular doorbell, or they can be installed with a separate wireless chime if no existing doorbell is present.

HOME NETWORKING

What do we mean by home networking? Basically this is a wired connection to your broadband router and is the best way to connect.

Everyone is familiar with Wi-Fi these days, but you'll probably also be familiar with Wi-Fi dropouts and slow downs too. A wired connection won't do that and wll instead maintain a constant connection at higher than Wi-Fi speeds.

A wired home network is ideal for internet streaming such as Netwflix, Amazon prime or Youtube as you won't get random pausing and juddering, especially when streaming at 4K, or you have lots of people streaming differenet things at the same time.

A wired connection is preferred for extreme gamers as the latency is extremely small and means you're more likely to get that perfect head shot in Counterstrike or Fortnight online.

Every home is different so get in touch if you'd like to discuss your particular home networking requirements.

WI-FI ISSUES AND EXTENDED COVERAGE

Most people will be using the Wi-Fi functionality provided by the broadband router supplied by to them by their broadband supplier. This isnt great for a number of reasons, all of which will affect Wi-Fi stability and coverage.

Firstly, a broadband supliers router will most likely be as close to the street as possible - i.e. where the line comes into the house - and this means that Wi-Fi coverage at the back of the house or on higher floors may be poor.

Secondly, the suppliers router is made in huge quantities and usually down to a price. The Wi-Fi functioanlity will not be the best available and it is common for people to have to periodically reboot their router to fix issues. This shoud not be required if the box was of god quality.

To improve these issues you can do one of three things:

1. Install Wi-Fi repeaters.

2. Disable the routers Wi-Fi and nstead connect third party Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) via network cables.

3. Install MESH Wi-Fi.

SECURITY LIGHTS

Outside security lighting is the bear minimum security that all homes should have. Any intruders will most likely be scared off as soon as the light comes on and they're really helpful for you and your family when you arrive home late at night.

Timed lights also make it look like someone is home even when you're not.

The other thing with security lights that people forget, is that if you have a CCTV system it will go into night vision mode at night when it is dark, which typically means a black and white recorded image. But, when security lights get activated by people movement, this will mean that the area is illuminated and the CCTV system will switch back to colour recording. This makes for a better recording and may be extremely beneficial when wanting to describe the colour of a suspects jacket, or the colour of a suspects car.
